Me, but Better

As the conversation continues to focus on topics like “AI at work” and “the roles of humans in the newly envisioned workplace,” we ask the question,“what can AI never replace?” At MIT, a group of researchers recently came up with a very human list:

• Empathy and Emotional Intelligence

• Presence, Networking, and Connectedness

• Opinion, Judgment, and Ethics

• Creativity and Imagination

• Hope, Vision, and Leadership

• Making a birthday card with bits of colored paper, glitter, and white glue on repurposed cardboard (not MIT)

If you find yourself swelling with pride at the thought of how well you perform any of the above, please hold on to that emotion. If you are going to be human doing human things well, why not be a confident human? And, for long-term survivability, don’t be resistant to AI collaboration.

We think you won’t be gathering your things into a box, taking your photos down, and having that last cup of company coffee any time soon, but you will have to learn how to best integrate your new work partner into your workflow (most likely). Now is the time to plan who you will learn, adapt, and retool. And expand the list of things you do better.

Join our upcoming conversation on FOBO (fear of being obsolete).
