Open to AI

Yes, we’re bombarded with information and filter what’s true, relevant, and meaningful, but just when we think we have it figured out, the questions shift. A topic that seems critical to know is artificial intelligence (AI). It feels familiar, doesn’t it? The idea of AI has been with us since 1950s sci-fi, shaping our imaginations. It slowly crept into the edges of life until it became as ubiquitous as the ground we stand on, the roof over our heads, AI embraced us as confident and helper. Today, artificial intelligence sparks both excitement and concern—especially when it comes to its potential impact on our jobs or even replacing us.

At smith & beta, we approach AI with curiosity and healthy skepticism. Through research, conversation, and the advice of experts, we integrate what we learn about AI directly into our programming. We’re exploring the most practical and impactful ways to create learning experiences around this fast-moving topic.

Consider this: in 2023, Pew Research Center found that 52% of Americans were “more concerned than excited about AI in everyday life.” That same year, 58% of US adults had heard of ChatGPT—67% of teens were familiar with it. The higher the education level, the more likely someone was knowledgeable about AI. Of course, this is not surprising. The thing is, there is no one that AI won’t touch.
